Discoveries date back to various periods in history - from prehistoric times to the modern day. These excavations show 7000 years of Hallstatt's history.
Archaeological excavations
This "chance discovery" (emergency excavation by the Federal Office for the Protection of Monuments from 1990-1994) provided the opportunity for the first time in the center of Hallstatt to document a sequence of strata from the present day to prehistoric and early historic times.
Finds:
- the salt works forge with a hammer mill and fluter
- outer walls of the Habsburg Court from the High Middle Ages
- foundation remains from Roman times
- prehistoric layers of the prehistory and early history
- besides numerous findings like these
- Metal objects (Saline forge),
- ceramics/stone-age,
- prehistoric

- medieval and modern.
